The Benefits of Women’s Council of Realtors

When a member asks someone to become a member of Women’s Council of Realtors, the most common response is “I’m too busy”, followed by “ I’m trying to build my business and don’t have time”, followed by “I’m a guy so why would I join Women’s Council”.

Back in 1992, I became a member of Women’s Council of Realtors.  I just didn’t put it as a line on my resume, I jumped in.  Committees, special events and eventually ran for office.  I served as Secretary, President Elect and in 2001 became the Local Chapter President for the Cape Coral Chapter.  There were wonderful mentors and they taught us well.

I have to tell you that 2001 was a tough year.  9-11 happened and the whole world changed.  One of our affiliate members, Denise Grant, had just moved to NY to take a job in the World Trade Center and lost her life that day.

In the Women’s Council World, we progressed.   We moved the organization as a whole into the new century and became the premier organization that we are today!  Education is our focus.  Our members are the best of the best.  And how do you as a new member get there?  Here’s the answer.

Join in and help on committees.  You will gain business.  People do business with people that they trust.  They don’t do business with a company – it’s the person.  When you work side by side on a project or a special event, you get to know the people you work with.  So, business is one reason you want to join.  You’ll meet other Realtors to share experiences with.  You’ll get to know your affiliates and share your concerns about their business and how it affects yours.

Take it to the next level and go to the State meetings and if you can to the National Meetings.  You will meet Realtors and affiliates from all over the state and the country.
You’ll network with them.  You’ll be working with them on projects and committees.
So, the next time a client needs a Realtor in Tampa you’ll know who to refer them to.
The next time you need a referral in California, you’ll know who to refer them to.

That’s just a small sampling of the business benefits you’ll receive as a member of Women’s Council of Realtors.

Along with the business relationships , you will make friends.
The friendships you gain are priceless.  You’ll form bonds with friends that are incomparable.

On a personal note, I was Cape Coral’s Local Chapter President, a District Vice-President and a Governor.  I traveled the State and went to National Meetings and to this day still maintain my friendships and business relations with Realtors that I worked with.  Last year 3 deals were closed due to referrals with other WCR members from the State and from Ohio.

On a more personal note, when I was being treated for an illness, my WCR family were the best of friends for me.  Food was delivered to my home, a fundraiser to help me with medical expenses was done, cards came, emails came and I felt so blessed to have my WCR family in my life.  They helped me through a difficult time and I will be forever grateful.

So, when someone asks you to join WCR, think long and hard before you’re “too busy” to get involved.  Think of the business opportunities, the educational opportunities and benefits, and think of the life long friends you will make.   Always remember that whatever you give always comes back to you.  Your investment of time will give you incomparable rewards and friends that you will have for life.
